 “One of Those Days”

     I recently read the following story in Readers Digest Magazine:

When my father ran out of gas, he called my mother to pick him up in her car. They went to a gas station, filled a gas can, and returned to his car. After a few minutes, he got into her car again. ‘We need to go back to the gas station,’ he said.‘One gallon wasn’t enough?’ she asked.  ‘It would have been if I’d put it in the right car.’

     Did you ever just have “one of those days” when it seemed like everything that could possibly go wrong, did? Sometimes, it seems that no matter how hard we try, we still manage to get it wrong!  At times, it can be really discouraging. 

     The 46^th Psalm opens with the great proclamation, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”  It goes on to describe a world where the earth is removed, the mountains fall into the sea, the waters roar, and the mountains shake.  Even in the midst of such turmoil, the psalm proclaims, “we will not fear.”  What is the source of such confidence, such peace of mind? “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.” (46:7)

     Isn’t it great to know that, however rough our lives may get, we have such a great and awesome God who serves as our refuge?  The next time you find yourself having “one of those days,” take a moment to stop and remember that God is still in control, and He will never let you down! 

“Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

(Psalm 46:10)
